Health Insurance question? Everything I have had done I’m getting fully billed for?

I started my job in August 2006. Starting in June 2007 I made my first doctors visit and had blood work. I recieved a reciept thing showing what was paid for, which was everything but my co-pay. Well now I’m suddenly getting a bill from collections for the full price of blood work from Quest Diagnostics.

Then in September at a different doctor I had a routine pap smear… and am getting a full bill now from Quest Diagnostics… then a few weeks later I had a colopsy done to test cells of my cervix.. and am getting the full bill for that, over $400 just for that!

I couldnt even sleep last night thinking of having to pay nearly $1000 for these 3 bills…. I dont understand, I gave EACH doctors office my insurance card to copy and everything.

Whats is going on? Why is my health insurance not paying for these things when they should?!?!?

I know I need to make some calls, but I’m stuck at work and cant until they are open later in the evening Monday.

Any advice? =(

You need to call your health insurance company and see what the problem is, why they aren’t paying.

It COULD be that your employer switched plans, and you are turning in an OLD insurance card. Or, maybe diagnostic testing isn’t covered. Or, maybe your employer didn’t pay the health insurance bill. Who knows.

So call the number on the back of your card.

Everyone is telling me conflicting things about what the health care bill which Congress passed says, like who is going to provide the health care (government/ private insurance), who is going to pay for the health care (gov’t via taxpayers/ individuals), how it is going to work (public option/ not).

Can someone please link me to a non-biased website that just spells out what all this new bill includes and what didn’t pass. I don’t want anyone’s interpretation of it or predictions of what will happen, just a straight synopsis of what the passed bill actually says.

(Make sure it is the final one which BOTH houses passed)

Thanks!

Oftentimes, after a car accident, you might not immediately realize the severity of your personal injuries. Many serious injuries may not become apparent until days after the accident, even those that can life-altering consequences.

Visit Your Doctor Immediately After a Car Accident

It is very common to feel worse in the days following your accident than you did on the day it happened. Soft-tissue injuries-such as those commonly suffered in car accidents-do not always appear promptly, unlike a broken bone.

There are several compelling arguments for visiting your doctor immediately after a car accident. If you do not visit your doctor:

o You will delay the application of any preventative care;

o Your pain may become debilitating; and

o Your insurance company may use your failure to seek medical care against you during your claim settlement.

In addition to the important short and long-term medical considerations involved with seeking prompt medical attention to treat car accident injuries, the longer you wait to see your doctor, the harder it will be to prove your injuries were caused by your accident.

Always Cooperate With Your Doctors

Tell your doctor about any pain you suffer, even if it seems relatively minor, as it can be very difficult to gauge what could potentially become a more serious condition down the line. Any attempts at self-diagnosis could have a detrimental effect on your long-term health and comfort, as well as your car accident case and personal injury claim.

Missing a doctor’s appointment is a red flag to both your doctor and the insurance adjuster that your accident injuries are not as severe as you have stated. In order to recover the damages that you deserve for your injuries, you must prove you are injured.

Each time you visit your doctor, the status of your accident injury will be updated. This is why it is important to be very thorough in your description of your injuries and the pain that you are experiencing.

Also be sure to inform your doctor of any previous injuries, as this will likely impact the course of treatment for your accident injuries. Talk to your doctor about how your injuries are impacting your day-to-day life, and if they have caused you to miss work, or experience decreased mobility and activity. At the same time, demonstrate to your doctor that you are committed to following his or her orders for a complete recovery.

Finally, you must give your doctor a detailed explanation of what happened during your car accident. By telling your doctor every physical detail of your car accident-such as if you were hit from behind, or if the airbags deployed-you are assisting in your diagnosis and ensuring that your medical records are more complete.

By cooperating with your doctor, you demonstrate that your accident injuries are serious and that you are committed to doing what it takes to recover from those injuries.

Why does our govenment not spend more time reforming the Pharmaceutical industry rather the Health Ins. Ind.?

In 2008, Pharmaceutical profits in comparison to revenues was 19.3%. Health Insurance Industry was only 4.6%. Would it not make sense to have a pharmaceutical reform rather then concentrating on health Insurance. If we took care of the outrageous pricing of medication, wouldn’t health insurances see the benefits and in turn allow the economics to push prices down. Allowing for more to have it without costing our government anything like the plan now.

Great question!
I agree with you that the Pharma needs investigation.
If medicines are given by prescription doesn’t the fact that TV ads cause people to plead with their doctors for a med that he might not suggest but will cave if pushed?
It seems that profits were said to have increased 30% since TV advertising. That is a very telling statement.
People who want to get back to work, mothers who can’t afford to take time off to take care of children are influencing doctors to over prescribe. This leads to additional problems, physical and financial.

Home buildings insurance-what am I entilted to?

I live in Hull, UK and my area was badly flooded in summer 07. Those worse affected moved out straight away as their homes were unliveable and the builders moved in. We agreed with our loss adjuster to wait until after Christmas to start on our house. Even though we have no flooring and there is mould all over. Now we are ready to move out so the work can begin but the loss adjuster says we can’t live in a hotel because it will cost to much (4 adults 1 dog) we know there are no homes to rent that would take a dog, all are full. We may be able to have a caravan in our garden but he said we will not get the ‘disturbance money’ my neighbours are getting (ie £10 per day per person, plus money to cover laundry). The people are getting the money to eat out. You can’t cook for a family in a caravan for 6 months. I wanted to know what I can expect to be intitled too and can I insist on a hotel?

Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear of your predicament following the flooding in the Summer.

It is hard to give any sound advice without knowing exactly what your policy cover includes. On either buildings or contents insurance there will usually be a cause covering alternative accommodation. This could be either a flat rate fee although its is far more likely to be a percentage of your buildings or contents sum insured, usually upto 20%.

You need to contact the insurer’s claims dept and find out what you are entitled to. If what they offer does not satisfy you, make a formal complaint writing to the company. If this still not satisy you, you will then be able to contact the Ombudsman (the details should be in your policy booklet) who will make a decision that is binding on your insurer.

I know its hard to understand at this time, but unprecedented events over the Summer have made it incredibly diffcult for UK insurers but I know first hand that they will try to do everything in their power to hellp you.

Fozbah

His name is JD, he was very unprofessional and kept calling me baby I could hear him eating and drinking, He told me to “hang on” each time. He insists that I have to call him directly to receive the quote or else I will have to pay 665 versus 355…I believe he gave me his home phone number, I have tried to report the incident but end up being transferred a million times to people who are not qualified to deal with the situation and then again and again. If there a place on the Progressive website that could make a formal complaint against this person. I do not have his work ext. but I do have his home phone number. Thanks.

Why not go to a different insurance company….or do you just like complaining?

Medicare supplement coverage helps many of today’s senior citizens with their health care needs. Private companies that are approved to work with the program provide many different plan options for helping them pay for their health care and prescription drug needs.

There are many considerations that affect which plan you decide to go with. Cost is always a primary concern, but the benefits that are available, choice of doctor, location convenience and quality of the care provided are also important. Depending on your situation, you may find that the least expensive plan is not the best one for your needs.

Medigap policies do not cover long-term care, such as that received in a nursing home. It also does not take care of vision or dental needs, hearing aids or private, at home nursing. There are also plans that are not considered Medicare supplement coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Part C, operate like an HMO or PPO. The Medicare Private Fee-For-Service Plans are Parts A and B.

They are what are known as the “original Medicare program.” Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, known as Part D, are also not considered Medigap policies. There are a number of programs and benefits that retirees can take advantage of.

Many people believe that they are part of Medicare Supplement coverage, because they are available after they turn 65. This is not true. Some examples of benefits that are not part of the Medicare program, nor are they part of the supplemental coverage options include veteran’s benefits, long-term care insurance policies, union plans, employer plans and TRICARE.

Although there are many supplemental policies to choose from, not all states offer all policies. Insurance companies are also not required to offer all policies that are available in the state. This often makes selecting the right plan time consuming and research intensive.

Each insurance company uses their own formula to calculate the rates for Medicare Supplement coverage. Depending on the plan provider, they may rely on age or pre-existing conditions as a primary determinate. Regardless of your current health status, an insurance company must sell you a Medigap policy.

There are certain timeframes where you are guaranteed the right to purchase a policy. This includes the open enrollment period and if you have a guaranteed issue right. Consideration of ongoing need should be balanced with cost, location, convenience and quality of the care you receive before a plan is purchased.

Dave Miller recommends visiting this updated site about Medicare Supplement Coverage information and coverage options available.

For More Informaton regarding Medicare visit this site at http://www.Over65Insure.com.

While purchasing a homeowners insurance the first issue of extreme concern is the amount of coverage you want. A recent survey conducted by the Insurance Information Institute revealed that two-thirds of all homes in America were underinsured by an average of 27%. Thus it is important to opt for a right amount of coverage.

If you are finding it difficult to calculate the extent of coverage you want, there are several ways to do it. For instance if you want coverage for reconstruction of your house then multiply the square foot of your home by the local building cost per square foot. To know the cost of rebuilding your house, also known as dwelling coverage, you can take the help of any local insurance or real estate agent.

For instance in Nevada an average of 1268 square foot home that was built in 1997 has a current dwelling coverage of $81000. However if the homeowners feel that they are underinsured by 27% and increased their coverage to $110,000, the monthly payment will increase by $7.50 per month.

Since most often the homeowners insurance also compensates for personal liability, you should also keep in mind how much coverage you require for certain legal expenses, medical expenditure or injury to any member of the house.

Though a standard homeowners policy comes with liability coverage of worth $100,000, insurance professionals usually advise to get of coverage of around $300,000 to $500,000 as liability coverage. To have this extra amount added to your standard homeowners policy, purchasing an endorsement is a wise idea.

You can also go for personal umbrella coverage in case the worth of your assets is more than $300,000 to $500,000. The umbrella cover is extremely useful once you are through with your homeowners or automobiles coverage. For instance if your colleague is injured at your house and revengefully sues you for $500,000, your homeowners insurance will cover for $300,000 and get exhausted but the amount left will be easily covered by the umbrella coverage.

For insuring your household things there are three ways. First is the actual cash value in which the policy pays for replacing your personal property using the method that is based on replacement cost of the thing minus the depreciation?

Second is the replacement cost strategy where you receive current amount for the thing you lost in any of the covered dangers. Though this way requires you to pay an additional premium but it can prove extremely beneficial in the long run.

The third option is the guaranteed replacement cost. This coverage means that there is no maximum payout applied to coverage of your insured personal possessions. You need to pay an extra premium but on the same hand increase your deductible to make the coverage somewhat cost-effective. Similarly the structure of our house is also to be insured in these three ways but with slight variation.

According to current facts and statistics presented by National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 2002 the average expenditure on homeowners insurance increased by 12% from $593 to $668 in 2003. Expenditure varies with the state. For example in 2003 Texas witnessed the highest average expenditure of $1328, in Oregon it was $461, Delaware $442 and Maine $462.

What are the best insurance adjuster secrets can you give me? One of my readers wrote… the answer is not a simple one since there are many different types of strategist out there to get you to settle for less. Since we can be talking about property damages, wage loss, pain and suffering, total loss, rental cars, and many other types of claims, I will give you the most common insurance adjuster secrets and techniques use when negotiating in general. The ones the insurance company taught me when I was working for them.

Playing musical chairs –

A very common technique. Adjusters love to “change”, “reassign” or “exchange” claims among them. Many times the adjuster supervisor steps in and re assigns the claim. This makes you renegotiate settled points. Dealing with new adjusters helps the insurance company isolate different issues. Joe will settle the total loss, Ben will settle fault, and Karen will settle the injury. This way, insurance adjusters can “throw” the ball among them, and they do not have to give you a straight answer. “Well sir, I think the answer is A, but you need to talk to Ben about that and he is out of the office for a week”.

Changing the shape of the money -

“I am very sorry that you had a headache and lower back pain for more than two weeks. That is certainly a shame. We only can give you, at the very most “$2,500″ which can pay for a trip to Mexico for two. Why don’t you treat yourself and take your wife in a nice Caribbean cruise?” This is very powerful. Adjusters do this every day and this one is only one of their powerful strategies. If the adjuster is settling a younger person, the offer would be $250 for an IPod or a PSP. This “helps” the injured party spend the money in their heads, and makes them want to settle. Remember, you are settling for pain. You want money, not IPods, Cruises, Laptops, or Video
games.

Time of the day -

Adjusters want to call you when it is inconvenient for you. Yeah, they want time to be able to explain their position, but not give you much time to rebut. They probably will hate me for revealing one of the most rude insurance adjuster secrets. They will call you at 7:30 A.M. when you are about to go to work. They want to put pressure on you so you settle right there and then. It “helps” you think “I am done dealing with this people. I just settle and move on with my life”. You can turn this one around. Call the adjuster just before their lunch hour or before they leave for a three day weekend. They want to get out of the office and go home; you can get a better offer if the adjuster wants to go see their family.

Christmas is a wonderful time for Insurance Companies.

Every one seems to be broke right before or after Christmas. Even if you are not a Christian, it just seems that the retail industry is able to sucker all of us into spending more than we have. Consequently, most people are broke right about then. Insurance companies push adjusters (I was one of them) to be more aggressive around this time of the year. They also apply this technique around other holidays. Think about it. You need money for the kids’ toys? So Why not give in and settle for $1,000? Adjusters are savvy and this is a great time for them. Where I used to work, December and January were the best times to settle claims. Our success rate increased by 70%.

The Mute Button-one of the most powerful insurance adjuster secrets.

I was trained to give an offer and hit the mute button. The rule was that we could not emit a sound after the offer was on the table. This often worked. You were ensuring that you would not make a second offer in the same conversation. If my offer was $10,000 then I wanted to hear a response. I did not want to say $10,000 but if you settle today $11,000. This would be considered bidding against oneself. Insurance adjuster will never (unless the adjuster is not trained correctly) give you two different offers in the same conversation. They will give you an offer and wait to see what you say. Use this against the insurance company. Counter offer and hit the mute button!
