Buyer Beware:

There are cheap health insurance plans that claim to have all the benefits at a cheap price. Some of them do have great benefits, but some are just plain lousy. Here's how you can tell the difference:

Be Cautious of Captive Agents

Captive agents are agents that only sell for the company they are employed by. This limits them to the products sold by their employer. Most captive agents have great plans, but there are some that are selling plans with low benefit limits, and limited catastrophic coverage. If there' a plan out there that's better for you or your family, the agent may not know about it, and they sure don't have any reason to tell you about it, even if they did.

If The Benefits Seem to Good to be True They Probably Are

If the price is low and the benefits are comprehensive, you have to wonder how the insurance company is staying in business by being both the price leader and coverage front-runner. Many times the reason the coverage seems great and the price seems cheap is because the insurance company has set limits on certain benefits, limiting their risk if there are major expenses. Read the fine print before you buy and ask a lot of questions.

Research the Insurance Company

"Google" the company and find out what people are saying about them. Check with your state insurance department and find out if they are on any sort of watch list. Check the Better Business Bureau to read any complaints they've received and find out if and how they resolved them. Find out what their financial rating is through AM Best or Standard and Poors.

Your Best Free Resource

Independent local agents are not only a free resource, but they are knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the local companies. They know the plans, rates, and typically have a solid birds-eye view of your local market. Best of all, they are independent and have reason to look out for your best interests. Find an agent that works with multiple local insurance companies.

Find out how much you can save each month, while still keeping quality benefits with a reliable company. Just complete this short form and a local agent will contact you and help you get started.

If you found this article helpful, I would appreciate your help in rating it using the five star rating system below. Thank you and good luck in your search for an affordable health plan!

Why does our government waste so much of our tax money?

Example: we went to war in Iraq in March of 2003, there were no weapons of mass destruction, but we invaded anyway. Every day we pour more and more tax money into this war which was started under false pretences. We put casual drug users in prison for a long time, even marijuana offenders, and we, the taxpayers, have to pay for their incarceration. Not every American is interested in space travel, and it's not a necessity, but we still have NASA. We are losing the war on drugs, it's a waste of time, but we still have the DEA. Why can't we take all that money and set up a public option for health care, whilst allowing private insurance firms to continue?

They did not work for the money, it is not their money so they care not how much is spent or what it is spent on. Just as, you or I if we work our a$$es off for the money we spend it wisely if someone gives it to us we spend like a drunken sailor.

Clinton supporters, can you explain the details of her contribution to Children's Health Insurance program?

Her website says
"..her successful effort to create the SCHIP Children's Health Insurance program which now covers six million children"

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/feature/healthcareplan/

while looking for details I came across Ted Kennedy's site

http://www.tedkennedy.com/content/622/improving-the-health-of-americas-children

which goes into details on how he was involved in the SCHIP program.

and then saw this:

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/10/06/clinton_claims_credit_for_child_program/

So why is it that Ted Kennedy is never mentioned when she takes credit for this program?

Could this be why Kennedy endorsed Obama rather than Clinton?
John, you haven't answered the question at all. What exactly was her role? It was NOT as leader, clearly Kennedy was. Are all Clinton supporters just reciting the same mantra with no details? Why don't you try researching it yourself and then let me know.

Good luck with your question . Her name will appear, but that's about it. Ditto for New York. As NY Senator, Hillary also asked for and received 20 million dollars from the feds to assist the families of policemen and firefighters after 9/11.

But try to find exactly how Hillary was instrumental in that endeavor. You won't find it. What you will find is Hillary turned most of that money over to CORPORATIONS to disperse the funds accordingly. Of course, there were the expected tax breaks. All legal, yes, but it's one more instance of Hillary billing herself as a major player when she was nowhere to be found.

Can someone please spell out what the new health care bill entails?

Everyone is telling me conflicting things about what the health care bill which Congress passed says, like who is going to provide the health care (government/ private insurance), who is going to pay for the health care (gov't via taxpayers/ individuals), how it is going to work (public option/ not).

Can someone please link me to a non-biased website that just spells out what all this new bill includes and what didn't pass. I don't want anyone's interpretation of it or predictions of what will happen, just a straight synopsis of what the passed bill actually says.

(Make sure it is the final one which BOTH houses passed)

Looking for affordable health insurance in California?

Is there any way that an individual might be able to join an existing health insurande group? I am single, and my job does not offer insurance. I am 28 and healthy, but the costs of individual plans are out of my budget. I was just wondering if there was a better way to insure myself on the up and up.

In some states—I believe California is one—an insurance broker can bring together individuals into a small group that qualifies for a group plan. Consult with a local insurance broker. To find one, log on to a website like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a quote. Your info will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you. A broker works with several health insurance companies, and can find the best deal for you. There is no charge for the service and no obligation to buy.

When seeking cheap insurance for your automobile, it's important to research multiple providers before deciding on a single company. Many car insurance providers offer discounts for various reasons. No two are alike. But there are also a few that promise better rates, but give terrible service when you need to file a claim. If you're in the market for car insurance, here are five ways to determine which providers are dependable and affordable and which ones should be avoided.

1. Use the Web

Comparing insurance rates and companies has become quite easy within the past few years thanks to the hundreds of Internet auto insurance resources. You can easily compare providers, the policies being offered and the available rates using only one rate comparison site. This can help you find at least a few providers that cater to your needs at rates you can afford. Then you can research further to make sure the companies are reliable and offer the high caliber service you desire.

2. Check Your State's Car Insurance Data

Determine if certain providers have a good standing with your state's Department of Insurance. Most states offer information at the Department's website, so you can check there to make sure the provider you are considering is in good standing with very few or no consumer complaints. The Department's website is also a good place to find data and statistics for your area, which are often used by insurance companies to determine car insurance rates. You'll notice that some providers offer cheap auto insurance to certain types of drivers, such as mature drivers, teen drivers, those that are homeowners, high risk drivers, etc. This means that not all providers will offer cheap insurance to you, but some will.

3. Get Opinions from Others

A great way to determine if a provider offers good customer service is to read the opinions of other consumers. Read the Consumer Reports magazine to find surveys about particular companies, or research forums and discussion groups online. Check out what others are saying about the potential providers on your list. A common complaint among consumers is that a provider offered a cheap insurance premium and promised many benefits, but did not deliver. But be careful...don't base your decision on the opinion of one or two people. Keep an open mind and consider how the majority of people feel about the company. Read about others' experiences with claims from the provider and how well or poorly they were treated.

4. Visit a Few Local Car Repair Shops

Repair shop owners and managers will usually know which insurance providers are reliable. They have to deal with car insurance matters on a daily basis and can let you know which providers pay claims promptly and which ones give the most trouble. They are also exposed to consumer complaints and praises of providers on a regular basis.

5. Check Financial Ratings

Car insurance companies are rated by their financial standing to determine stability and how equipped they are to handle the number of claims expected. If a provider is financially unstable, it may fold if the number of claims exceeds a certain amount. This means you could be left without car insurance after investing time and money into the company. Financial ratings are offered by A.M. Best and Standard & Poor.

Take these five tips to heart while searching for cheap car insurance. You'll have peace of mind AND cheap insurance without the hassle of a not-so-good provider!
