2008 Ninja 650R?

I’m 17, 6’0 – 6’1, and 220 – 230 lbs. I’m new to riding and mainly want a bike because they are very cheap compared to cars. I’m looking at a Ninja 650R. Is that bike big enough for my size? I also liked the Suzuki 650 but i’m leaning to the Ninja because I like the exaust better (and its cheaper.) Is Suzuki Better? Also does anyone know about how many MPG it will get? My guess would be around 70 but I could be way off. And finally insurance, I live in the Houston area in Texas.
What is a good website that sells motorcycle gear?

The Ninja 650R is a great bike for a beginner. Friendly power, and enough power to last you for a while. Only real knock I’ve heard against it is that some examples have front brakes that weren’t as strong as others. Kawasaki may have fixed this since the intro, too.

As for how well it will fit your frame, best way to find that out is to sit on one. Your dimensions aren’t so unusual, so I don’t think it would be too much of a problem. I’d pay special attention, however, to the angle at which your knees are bent. Since you’re on the tall side, I’d take care to make sure that they aren’t bent at too much of an angle. That can get uncomfortable after a while.

I’ve heard good things about the GSX650F, too, and it would also be a good beginner bike. (I assume that’s the model you’re talking about).

MPG might be closer to 60. That’s going to vary with your riding, too.

Insurance may be pricey. Young males on sportbikes pay a pretty heavy premium. The 650R is a lot closer to a “standard” bike than a sport bike, though it looks racy. Kinda depends on how the insurance company classifies it. Definitely would be a good idea to shop around.

Also, make sure you allocate some of your funds for gear. I know it gets hot in Houston, but riding gear is a lot less hot than skin grafts.

No.. it is considered part of routine maintenance and upkeep. But….. if it got hit by lightning, flood damage, electrical surge, it was stolen, robber hit it with a baseball bat, neighbors dog chewed it….. then you might have a claim.

Alright im in a situation im not sure how to deal with. Im buying a continental tommarow for $200 from a friend. There is no registration for the car and tags are expired. I live in portland in the DEQ boundries where as salem does not require DEQ. I would ask him to go to dmv and get the registration so i dont have to deal with DEQ, but he doesnt have insurance on it, that would be my responsibility. Im planning on moving to salem shortly, but im just waiting on some mail so i can change my address. Im getting insurance tommarow but i wont have any papers in hand for it. Help me out here please, would i need to get a trip permit, and do a change of address, then get my registration? i would call the dmv but they are closed today, any help would be appriciated, Thanks. Fee info would be great.

There is no provision to operate a vehicle on the highway without insurance or proper registration. Get caught without either one, and the $200 purchase price will be nothing compared to the fine. A vehicle doesn’t have to have a current registration, but it does have to have a valid title. Without the proper title, registration, or valid bill of sale, you won’t be able to register it. Without insurance, you’ll be in really deep stuff. Good Luck.

Water-related property damage from faulty plumbing accounts for millions of dollars in homeowners’ insurance claims each and every year. If an exterior pipe bursts and water is spraying all over, the leak is a cinch to detect. But what about those leaks that are not readily apparent until after there’s a hole in the ceiling or the basement is flooded? Here are some ways to tell if your home has leaky pipes.

Unexpected moisture under sinks

It is NOT normal to have any kind of standing water or even a thin sheen of moisture under your kitchen or bathroom sinks. The pipes should be completely self-contained thanks to proper design and caulking. Sometimes the leak is so small or so slow that you can’t see it easily with just a quick glance. Even if you’re only getting 5 drips an hour, that’s 5 drips too many: there should be none. Period.

Weakness in drywall

One of the most common areas for leaky pipes is the bath and shower. Just a simple crack or hole in the caulk around a shower control plate will allow water to seep back into the wall where it can wreak havoc. Water-related damage to drywall in a ceiling or wall will have a “tannish” color and the drywall may bubble as well. Take care of the problem immediately or it will just worsen over time and possibly cause some extremely serious damage.

Mold and Mildew growth

Mold and mildew colonies can only grow in environments that have the right levels of moisture for them to thrive. If you have unexpected mold or mildew under your sinks or in other areas, their presence may indicate the existence of a leaking pipe.

Leaking pipes are not a problem to be taken lightly: if you suspect that you may have issues with your plumbing, contact a reputable plumber in your area immediately: leaks are problems that simply won’t go away on their own.

A structured drivers ed course is usually the only type recognized by insurance companies. State’s tend to recognize the home course depending that certain criteria is met. However that criteria is easily manipulated (hours, training etc). Driver’s getting trained by lets say mom and dad have more of a tendancy to pick up the bad habit we all develop over time (driving with one hand using mirror to back up etc.).

I’ve got no hot water – what’s wrong with my boiler?

I’ve had hardly any hot water this week. It starts off hot in the morning but mid way through my shower, it runs out and the water gets ice cold. The heating is still working fine though and I’ve checked the boiler and all the switches are in the right place. Any ideas what the problem can be?

Also, are boilers included on house insurance or do you have to pay extra for that? Going to have a look when I get home, but thought I’d just see if anyone knew here.
It’s a combi boiler

Not a heating engineer, so sorry no idea about the water, but as to the insurance, unless you have a very special insurance policy, no it wont be. They would just regard it as an appliance breakdown.

The only way for your insurance to pay out on it would be if it blew up and took out your wall!

A bit extreme!

You need seperate heating cover, normally from gas engineer/ supplier to cover your boiler.

What would be the outcome when the elixir of life transforms into a powerhouse of destruction? It is a sad fact that nothing causes greater damage than a nation submerged in water. Unlike damage caused by fire, wind or earthquake, water damage is gradual and most likely to seem insignificant at first sight. So, by the time any sign of damage begins to manifest, irreversible damage would have already taken place, making restoration an impossible task.

In the United States alone, damage accounts for over 25 percent of all home insurance claims, with more than 37 percent homeowners admitting to loss of property due to extensive damaged by water. Recognizing damage in your home or property is the primary step towards preventing it. The most obvious signs of moisture build-up that can eventually escalate to water damage are drippy faucets or shower heads, water stains on the roof or walls, damp surface areas, unusual humidity or coolness in a particular room and a distinct odor of mildew. Rusted water tanks and clogged toilets are equally menacing and can cause more damage than you can ever imagine. Water leak detection systems fitted with moisture sensors can keep a watch on any leaks that occur while you are not at home.

Often, water leaks are not given the due respect they deserve. Instead of finding the source of the leak and getting an expert plumber to fix it, many homeowners turn a blind eye to what could end up being a major catastrophe. If your home or a particular room in the house begins to smell of molds, it is high time you hire a Water Damage Restoration Company to arrest the initial stages of destruction. The worst damage by water is caused by flooding. Neither your foresight nor your diligence will help you much out of this water crisis. Lightning-fast action and quick timing alone can curtail the impact of flooding. Restoration of household articles and belongings are ridiculously unimaginable if emergency response has been put on hold for more than 48 hours.

Do not attempt to restore water-damaged articles without the assistance of an expert who will be in a better position to assess the extent of the damage done and take the appropriate steps to restore without possible contamination. Unless you know what you are doing, it’s better to request the service of a professional restoration company.

The company services are based on a rich combination of reliable restoration principles, extensive research, practical experience and thorough consultation gathered from numerous sources. A professional company will document the items that have been affected by the damage and refer to industry standard pricing guides such as The Blue Book so as to determine the proper value of the items lost as well as their restoration service. Choose the most reputed ones that offer Insurance Claim Management Services as an extension of their water damage restoration service portfolio. That way, you can be assured of obtaining a favorable settlement when you file claims for property damage.

Jerry Dicosta has written many articles about water damage and claim management services. To know more visit Water damage services.

How to find out if this is insurance fraud…?

I own a kennel in the Dallas, TX area. We have a client who had boarded their dog with us due to their home being damaged by fire. They had us fax an invoice to a number which they said was their insurance company. They then told us that they received a check and are waiting for it to clear and they will come and pay us and collect the dog. It has now been several weeks and they are not returning phone calls or a letter. I am wondering if they got the check and just decided they’d rather keep they cash and have abandoned their poor dog with us. All I can think to do it fax a letter to this number and explain, but I don’t really know for sure it is an insurance company or if they would even care. Other than just taking it to small claims court, any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.

Well, they can do anything with that check that they want to. YOU are not party to any insurance claim. You will have to sue them directly to get the boarding money. Or sell the dog, or put it down – whatever it is you normally do, when someone abandons their animal to you. Which is what sounds like what happened.
