For the insurance professional in Florida, education is an on-going requirement. The Florida Department of Financial Services recognizes that insurance policies and the law are constantly changing and, that it is important for adjusters to keep abreast of the latest developments. For that reason, Florida claims adjusters must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

Course requirements include 2 hours of Ethics, 10 hours of Law and 12 hours of Optional subjects.

Ethics is the study of values, right and wrong and decision-making as applied to the adjustment of insurance claims. Courses in Ethics include materials that refer to cases and court decisions that highlight disputes that occur between claimants and insurance companies, as well as statutes and penalties that may apply in the event a claims adjuster violates the Code of Ethics.

Courses designated as 'Law' generally refer to the application and changes in laws that apply to property and casualty claims. Optional courses are those which inform the student about subjects more general in nature that have application to the adjuster's job duties, such as stress on-the-job.

Continuing Education requirements may be completed in a live classroom setting, or online. The major difference between the two formats is that online courses require a quiz, while live classes do not.

A sampling of online courses may include such courses as:

LAW

Insurance Bad Faith Online-2 hours

Medical Records and the Law Online-2 hours

Sexual Harassment and the Law-2 hours

FL Laws Governing Medical Care and Professional Liability-4 hours

ETHICS

Ethics and Adjusters-2 hours

OPTIONAL

Negotiation for Adjusters (2 credit hours)

Hurricanes a Florida Peril (2 credit hours)

Slip and Fall and Insurance Fraud (2 credit hours)

Black Boxes, Cell Phones and Auto Safety Issues (2 credit hours)

National Flood Insurance Program (4 credit hours)

When selecting an online or live provider, be sure to make sure that the company or school not only provides the correct approved courses for your license, but also includes uploading your credits into the state's roster. You can verify the status of a provider or school with the Department of Financial Services.

Searching adjuster continuing education online will also give you an idea of the ranking or popularity of a school. Putting search terms into Google such as 'Florida Adjuster Continuing Education' will give you a list of available schools.

Failure to comply with continuing education requirements will result in a $250 fine, so don't wait until the last minute to begin your work!

I need help with information about a claim we filed through auto insurance?

On April 4,2007 my husbands car was parked in the street which is in a culdesac, the neighbors daughter was dropping her off and when she reversed hit our parked car. We were told by the officer that her Insurance company would be contacing us. On May 23,2007 we called the Insurance company to find out she never reported or filed a claim. since then they have made several attempts to call only to get hung up on and have sent a certified letter with no response from her. The claim adjuster today told us they have the right to get a statement from their insured (usually about 30 days ) and if they dont get one they may decide not to pay out the claim (money to repair the vehicle) for damages. I told her what am I supposed to do now she said I would have to take it up with my insurance. I dont think that would be fair. What rights or actions could I take if she decides to deny the claim in order t otry to get them to payout the claim? They have the police report which has her statement.

You have the right to be compensated for damages that their insured caused. Sounds like their playing hard ball. If they stall you long enough then youll go away (or call your own insurance company.) You may need to give them some time. In the meantime I would call your states consumer protection department, insurance commission or other government office to find out if its okay for her (the insurance adjuster) to arbitrarily decide which claims they pay and to tell you they wont pay if they dont get a statement from their insured (a criminal by the way - for not reporting an accident to her insurance company) I would call the police and ask if she was obligated to report it (at least for your sake) If that isnt illegal it ought to be. If it is hopefully she gets in trouble.

It wasnt paris hilton was it.

Good luck to you.

P.S. just wanted to add that some say to call your insurance company. I was in an accident and did that. I claimed against the others insurance but I let my insurance agent know but no one ever put anything into the data base. Nearly a year later I had to claim the same injury using my insurance company and they didnt know anything about the accident. Keep documentation, get verified statements from both insurance companies if possible, cause in the end none of them care and will try to disclaim any liability. You never get reimbursed enough for all the trouble you go through.

Are you feeling frustrated that your claim for medical cover, car repair is rejected by your insurance company? If you are making your insurance premiums on time there is no denying you a compensation amount. Even before you appeal for your denied compensation, you must cross - verify that by reassuring any and all pre-authorization requests were filled out with accurate patient information. The only grounds on which you may be rejected a medical claim for your car accident is the 'missing data'. Make sure you don't leave behind any information unattended.

You have a legal right to make a claim and if there is any rejection you can reach out to a legal advisor. A legal advisor who is an expert in accident claim will be able to help you out. He will leave no stone unturned in getting you the compensation amount, as he will also be benefited if you win the case. This is very true in case of a 'no win no fee compensation'. An insurance company which practices this 'no win no fee compensation' will not charge you if you don't win the case.

Before you think of getting your car repaired find out if your company will pay you for it. They should agree to repay your car repair charges. Take a proper confirmation from them about the compensation amount they will pay for its repair. Do not proceed with out this. Remember that you will be required to pay the agreed level of excess even if your insurer will meet the repair costs, and this payment will normally be made straight to the garage which repairs your car.

In order to be covered for a rightful compensation, seek for a current copy of your health plan's identification card. If this is not in place, there is a greater chance of rejection. Keep all your documents intact. By documenting all of your communication with the insurance company, you are pre-preparing for any appeals case. Right from providing the details of the accident and informing the company about the incident at the earliest to maintaining the diagnosis or medical injury report, you must have every thing intact. Wise planning and preparation will not leave you lose the case!
