Should I relocate from VA to Rochester, NY?
My husband has a job offer (around 60K + benefits) to work in the Roc and currently he's working for at least 20K less than that and we pay $600/month for health insurance, not including meds. We have a 6 year old son. We absolutely love VA, except we're both from the Northeast and really miss the snow, bigtime. The community in VA has very, very little employment oppty's. I work from home so I can live anywhere and I make about $20-$25K / year (work about 20-29 hours per week). We're an active family...love to hike, bike, etc.
Well...let's look at this....your hubby is being offered a LOT more money plus benefits...and you have a young child who needs good benefits (as most children do). You can work anywhere, which is good...mobility is a beautiful thing! You already are used to the snow being from the Northeast...and you know how beautiful it can be! The winters here in New York have been pretty mild these past few years, so there's plenty of time to enjoy the great outdoors, not to mention all the activities in Rochester and the neighboring areas. I think you should relocate to Rochester and vacation in Virginia. This way you get the best of both worlds, and with his increase in pay you'll have money to sock away to take vacations! That sounds like a plan! I live in a suburb of Buffalo, NY and I love it here! The people are GREAT, the winters really aren't that bad and the summers ROCK!! Best of luck to you!!
