I heard that If I get a Divorce now in Milwaukee WI. I can’t get state health insurance? Is this true? ?

I have been waiting until my sons disability SSI comes through so I have the extra money to file for divorce. I am disabled as well but I need a couple more months before I can file. (as I’ve been told) I have about a thousand dollars to pay each month for prescriptions. My husband will not be able to pay for them and I could/would get very sick if I don’t get them. My doctor told me they just passed a law saying if your not divorced by next week (DEC.) that I won’t be able to get state health care. I am so scared right now. I scrimp and save, not taking my full doses of meds so I can stretch out my pills and inhaler as it is…. Sad I know. Help?

I can’t imagine that MARITAL STATUS is relevant, when applying for welfare health insurance. What counts, is the number of people living in your house, and the household income. They don’t care if you’re married or not.

Why don’t you go talk to your doctor, see if there are any of those $4 generics that will do almost as good a job as those thousands of dollar brand new medications that you want. Most of the time, there are.
